The Bruin Excellence & Student Transformation (BEST) Grant Program supports students who are impacting the experience of marginalized and underrepresented students at UCLA. The program accomplishes this goal by funding transformative student-centered projects that improve campus climate.
The BEST Grant Program was first proposed during the Forum to Reclaim Diversity held in 2015. Students, staff, and faculty at the Forum amplified the need for more transformative and sustainable programming informed by and engaging with the UCLA community. The Forum organizing team brought these conversations to the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, Jerry Kang, to discuss these campus concerns and to propose a new program building upon existing campus resources. The BEST Grant Program resulted from these conversations, with support from the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and the Institute of American Cultures.
